Left Coast Grief Collective

You Have Friends Everywhere

Calling on community! Are you interested in gathering with others to share in our collective grief, make sense of it, and still find joy and meaning under this regime?

We're creating ongoing spaces where we can all show up as we are and find opportunities to work through our grief together in different ways. From sound baths to song circles, to facilitated conversations about what's happening to movement-focused processing or play, to stitch & bitch circles or just showing up and sitting in silence, we all have different needs and different things to offer, so let's find each other and help each other through these dark times.

Sunday Art + Wellness Groups

March 8 to April 26 (to possibly continue…) 3:30 to 5ish.  Ilwaco, WA (25 min from the Astoria library)

Ages 8 to 88. Groups are always inclusive and age-appropriate. Free but a $10 donation for materials is appreciated. Reservations required to laura@artwell.studio (.studio is like .com) These groups are for anyone that would like to use art to deal with the weight of the present political landscape. This group supports people that want to see a positive change in the world. My underlining interest is in encouraging people to connect with their own creativity, as a way to support their mental wellness. Participants do not need to have any experience making art. Each group will have a different theme, including Grief. Projects will include many mediums. ArtWell.studio was founded by Laura Halsey Brown. She is an artist and an Arts Counselor with many years of experience working with all age groups.  www.artwell.studio

Grief Processing Circle

Fourth Fridays 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Upstairs at Necessary Magic, 333 10th Street, Astoria (no ADA access)

SEE BELOW FOR APRIL LOCATION!

Is the current state of our nation and world getting you down? Do you feel lost and befuddled? Are you having way too many WTF moments and find yourself railing at the world, fists raised, arms flailing? Do I have a group for you!!

Letting this overwhelm and grief settle in your body is unhealthy. Let’s learn to be joyous grievers as we explore the range of experiences and emotions tied to grief and we use creative ways to acknowledge, sit with, and then release our grief in a safe space and invite joy in. Each month we will work on our grief in a different way.

April Circle: Drums and Chants. We will start with a brief talk about our grief and accompanying feelings then we will use percussion instruments and chanting as tools to help us process our feelings. Make this work for you: you can sit, listen, and soak it in, or participate and share as you like. The primary focus of this circle is the current state of affairs and how it is affecting you, however, grief is messy and it is understood that other threads of grief may come with you into our space. If you have a percussion instrument that you would like to bring for this processing, please do, or I will have a few for you to use. Also, if you would like to bring a chair or blanket to sit on since we will be at the park, please do so. Friday, April 24, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

LOCATION CHANGE: Violet La Plante Park, Cedar Street, cross of 45th Street, Astoria Your facilitator Bunny Peterson, MS, is a retired social services provider who is passionate about good mental health, is an expert in trauma, and is an advocate for anyone who is or feels marginalized.

Email Bunny if you have any questions.

Queer Grief Circle

A supportive meeting for adult survivors of sexual abuse and/or assault who are feeling activated by current events

Date and Time TBD LCQC, 171 W Bond St. This will be a space to share and witness all our experiences and emotions as queer survivors; impacted by a government that protects perpetrators of violence against vulnerable people while pointing their fingers at us. We’ll also make time for folks to ask for and to share resources, and to envision new ways of being in community with each other, locally and globally. You can expect an informal, conversational feel. Facilitated by Jenny Feldman-Adams, as a project of Left Coast Grief Collective. Sign up here (RSVP required, but no emails or last names will be captured). Information/ agreements: *To avoid further traumatizing each other, descriptive details of our or other people’s abuse should not be shared in this group. Generalities are welcome. *Please keep confidentiality- what’s shared here (and who’s here) stays here. *This group is not welcoming of defenders of fascism. *The circle is for peer support only and does not constitute a therapeutic relationship with the facilitator. It may become an ongoing group depending upon need. *For rapport and felt-safety building, please try to arrive on time! Accessibility Information *This event will be held indoors, and masks are requested by the facilitator but not required. To protect our most vulnerable community members, please stay home if symptomatic, and wear a mask if you’ve experienced any recent exposures (ex: kids are sick). Masks will be provided! *Please refrain from wearing strong scents, if possible. *The LCQC is *mostly* wheelchair accessible, with the caveat that the front door is heavy and requires assistance. The space is all on one level, with no steps to the front door and an accessible bathroom. .
